7-year-old Corey

Corey is an incredible, 7-year-old boy who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

On July 1, 2021, Corey ended up at AdventHealth after enduring a terrifying diabetic event. On that day, AdventHealth sent a fully staffed ambulance to transport him and his family to receive emergent care.

Corey’s mom Rebecca shared, “our son's diabetes was new to us and seeing our son in critical condition was devastating. The staff made sure all our questions were answered and remained very reassuring. They cared for Corey as if he were their own and not just another patient or room number.”

Corey remained in good spirits and received constant care from nurses, the Child Life Team and his physicians. Transitioning out of the hospital, the team helped educate the family and provide the supplies necessary to manage his diabetes.

Days after his diagnosis calls came from case management, social workers and dietitians. The follow-up appointments, while many, were helpful to Corey and his parents.

Rebecca shared that “everyone we have encountered at AdventHealth has been amazingly supportive and positive. From the providers, diabetic educators, nurses, and clerical staff everyone has been such a huge blessing to our family.”

Our annual Day of Giving on December 14 raises crucial funds to support children and families at AdventHealth for Children. Donate today and give the gift of hope to our littlest patients.
