Three and a half years ago, Derryl Benton, a successful Orlando businessman, had a life changing experience at AdventHealth.

A month after undergoing shoulder surgery while Derryl was waiting to board a plane for a business trip, he experienced shortness of breath.

Derryl remembers that moment by saying God was on my side. Derryl decided to call his cardiologist who advised him not to board the plane but to immediately come in for some tests.

He was examined by their physician assistant and it was determined that he needed further testing. His cat scan found two blood clots, one in each lung. Flying at high altitudes with two blood clots, could have ended Derryl's life.

Derryl was admitted to AdventHealth Altamonte, where he was informed that he would need to be transferred to AdventHealth Orlando for additional treatment. There he met his surgeons, Dr. Arora and Dr. Shah, who operated on his lungs and successfully removed the clots.

Today, thanks to the expert team of clinicians at AdventHealth, Derryl is fully recovered. Derryl is a grateful patient and knows that Generosity Heals. That's why he serves as a AdventHealth Ambassador and gives back of his time, talent and treasure through AdventHealth Foundation. Derryl and his wife Jackie support the AdventHealth Altamonte Eden Spa, a full service salon which provides services specifically designed for cancer patients.
