Generosity in the Midst of COVID-19

Communities around the world continue to face unprecedented challenges resulting from the COVID-19 world-wide pandemic and AdventHealth’s staff members are rising to meet these new challenges to keep the community safe. During March and April, AdventHealth cared for more than 600 COVID-19 patients in Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Polk, Lake, Volusia and Flagler counties.

As our health care system and nation fights this crisis, the community has shown an outpouring of support in ways we never could have imagined. You comforted our front lines with food, you showed up and prayed, you sent notes of encouragement and you donated supplies in honor of our health care heroes. This is generosity at its core, and this is the mission of AdventHealth—to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Highlights of the encouragement shown to our staff during this time:

  • Thousands of people sent thank you notes to lift the spirits of AdventHealth team members and entire front-line teams. Notes like this one from Kristin, brightened our team’s days:

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you are doing to help our families, friends and neighbors. Not all of us may be on the front lines with you, but we are here to support you in any way we can. You are in our thoughts and in our prayers. Be safe and God Bless."

  • COVID-19 relief efforts were put in place to help with things like food and lodging for on-call staff and care packages for caregivers who were impacted by COVID-19.
  • AdventHealth Central Florida played a key role in designing, coordinating and monitoring a variety of ways people can express their support across the AdventHealth system nationwide. Your generosity contributed to the over $2.4M in cash and in-kind gifts received to date.

Your commitment to the care teams during this critical time is deeply appreciated. We would like to thank the numerous companies who donated meals, masks, gloves, gowns, t-shirts and other items for our front-line teams. This provided encouragement to partially offset the stress they are facing as they help fight COVID-19. PepsiCo President Derek Lewis says that the encouragement goes both ways.

“The impact the AdventHealth team has had on our communities during the COVID-19 crisis is immeasurable. At Pepsi Beverages, we wanted to give the AdventHealth team something to smile about and a small reminder that we appreciate and support them for their heroics through our ‘Stronger Together’ program.”

As our community adjusts to this new normal, AdventHealth is committed to being partners in making that a safe process. Through CentraCare, AdventHealth is offering free access to our team of nationally leading physicians and clinical experts who can assist businesses with re-opening through consultation, comprehensive safety plan development and key employee and guest services.

These are only a few inspiring examples of how our community has stepped up to support AdventHealth during this time. However, we still need your help. The need for inpatient and outpatient clinical trials in antiviral therapies and vaccine trials is critical. With your support, AdventHealth can expand and provide the best treatments to critically ill patients while offering preventative therapies to stay on the cutting-edge of COVID-19 research. You can help us fight COVID-19 by supporting COVID-19 research.

The statistics above pertain to March – April, 2020. As COVID-19 continues, we will update the totals reported out above.
