When Adventist Health System (AHS) was founded in 1973, it was headquartered in a small building with space for less than 100 employees. Today, AHS has grown to be one of the largest faith-based health systems in the country. It's now sprawling corporate campus in Altamonte Springs, Florida, is a reflection of that growth, and recently, City of Altamonte Springs officials joined AHS leaders and team members to commemorate the completion of the organization’s corporate campus.
“Adventist Health System’s mission is to extend the healing ministry of Christ, and all of our team members come to work every day with that mission in mind,” said Sandra Johnson, executive vice president and chief administrative officer for Adventist Health System. “Many of us live, work, play and serve here in Altamonte Springs, and it is incredible to call this city our corporate home.”
The construction and opening of AHS’s new, state-of-the-art Support Center, one of seven buildings located on the site, marks the buildout of the corporate campus. The Support Center is occupied by teams that provide recruiting, benefits, payroll and other support services for team members across the health system.
The local officials who joined for the commemoration included Pat Bates, mayor of Altamonte Springs; Frank Martz, Altamonte Springs city manager; and the Altamonte Springs city commissioners. The commemoration was an opportunity for AHS leaders to thank the city for their support and to celebrate the impacts made locally through their partnership.
“Our core values are the same. Our partnership is one of service to others, and that has never changed,” said Mayor Pat Bates. “Congratulations, and thank you for your partnership yesterday, today, but most importantly, for the many tomorrows that we face together in service to our community.”
AHS strives to make the communities it serves better and healthier places to live. One way this is done in the Altamonte Springs area is through its community involvement program, which enables corporate team members to participate in various opportunities to serve local organizations and initiatives. Through the community involvement program, team members can devote their time and resources to local causes such as The Mustard Seed, Lake Lotus Park, Spring Lake Elementary and more.
The new Support Center and parking structure join five buildings already on site – Headquarters, Solutions Center, Forest City Cove, the 790 Gateway building and one other parking garage. At roughly 1 million square feet, the AHS corporate campus is the primary workspace for more than 3,000 team members who support the organization’s nearly 50 hospital campuses and a continuum of care that also includes physician practices, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies and hospice centers across nearly a dozen states.
The building’s interior and exterior design were informed by the organization’s mission, manifested through sculpture installations that depict scenes of Christ’s healing ministry and a focus on whole health values such as natural sunlight. In 2018, Adventist Health System’s corporate campus was named one of Central Florida’s “Coolest Office Spaces” by the Orlando Business Journal, an honor that recognizes the area’s most innovative, modern, sustainable and impressive workplaces.
