ORMOND BEACH, Fla., March 2, 2017 On Feb. 11, Florida Hospital HospiceCare celebrated their 140 volunteers for their dedicated service with tickets to a musical performance at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center followed by a special recognition reception. We are so thankful for each of our volunteers and their meaningful service to our patients and their families, said Rema Cole, Florida Hospital HospiceCare administrative director. These individuals are dedicated to our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ. The power of the love, peace and comfort that they provide to our patients and families is truly immeasurable. Throughout Volusia and Flagler counties, Florida Hospital HospiceCare volunteers provide a variety of duties from performing administrative tasks, to providing respite, companionship and spiritual support. Florida Hospital HospiceCare volunteers also offer pet therapy for patients and assist in the in-patient units and Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House, creating a supportive and caring environment for patients and their families. In 2017, Florida Hospital HospiceCare volunteers contributed more than 11,500 volunteer hours, at a value of nearly $280,000. While this cost savings is very important, our hospice volunteers most important contribution was in their connection to patients and their families, and the comfort and enhanced quality of life this connection created, Cole said.
