Florida Hospital announced plans today to build a 14,000-square foot, 12-bed hospital-based emergency department in Deltona to care for both adults and children.
Situated on more than four acres near Deltona High School at 3120 Howland Blvd., Deltona, the freestanding emergency department, AdventHealth Deltona ER, will house the same services found in hospital emergency rooms, including imaging and laboratory services.
'We know that nearly 40 percent of healthcare in the West Volusia community occurs outside of the West Volusia area,' said Rob Deininger, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial CEO. 'Over the last several years, we have made significant investments to provide residents more local access points for their healthcare needs. We have recruited new physicians to the area and added new practice locations. We opened the Deltona Health Park outpatient facility in 2015 and last year, we opened a Florida Hospital Centra Care urgent care facility just west of Deltona, over the I-4 bridge in Orange City. This freestanding emergency room will afford us another opportunity to care for the more than 90,000 Deltona residents at every stage of life, in every stage of health.'
Featuring an efficient design, the property accommodates the option for Florida Hospital to expand and add additional services as needed in the future.
'With the additional physicians we have brought into the West Volusia community, and our exciting partnership with the Volusia County Schools, Florida Hospital is well positioned to grow and continue to deliver outstanding healthcare to the residents of West Volusia, and especially in Deltona,' said Lorenzo Brown, Florida Hospital DeLand CEO. 'This new investment builds on our continued commitment to serving all the growing needs of our markets.'
The architect is Orlando-based HuntonBrady and construction on this approximately $12 million project will begin in the coming months and is expected to be completed by Summer 2019.
'We believe in investing in the community. Not only is this new emergency department an investment in the community's health care, but we are also striving to bring jobs and economic growth to the area,' Deininger said. 'We will use as many local vendors as we can for this construction project. Once completed, we will need to hire additional physicians and staff, and are looking to add about 40 full-time employees.'
In the next few months, Florida Hospital will host a groundbreaking to celebrate with the community this new access point for quality health care.'
Building on our legacy of health and healing, we are grateful to have the opportunity grow alongside our community. We considered many locations in Deltona and identified a clear need in this area,' Deininger said. 'Even with this new emergency department, we are certainly not done investing in the care available within Deltona. We will continue expanding and creating new access points for the community to receive high-quality health care.'
