NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., April 10, 2017 Florida Hospital New Smyrna has earned accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Adult Transthoracic Echocardiography. To achieve accreditation, Florida Hospital New Smyrna underwent an intensive application and review process. Comprised of a detailed self-evaluation, followed by a thorough review by a panel of medical experts, the IAC accreditation process assessed the critical operational and technical components of Florida Hospital New Smyrna and demonstrate the 112-bed facility's commitment to providing quality patient care in echocardiography. Used to assess different areas of the heart, echocardiography can detect heart disease or signs of serious cardiovascular conditions. This is an important accreditation for us to work towards because heart disease is so prevalent not just our community, but truly across our nation. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, killing one American every 40 seconds, said Ken Mattison, Florida Hospital New Smyrna CEO. The accreditation from the IAC is a seal of approval that patients can rely on to indicate consistent quality care and a dedication to continuous improvement.
