Social media. Bullying. Pressure to succeed. These are just some of the challenges students face during the school year.

“Fifty percent of all lifetime mental illnesses begin by age 14,” said Jessica Galo, director of specialty care at AdventHealth for Children in Orlando. Galo is also a member of the Orange County Youth Mental Health Commission.

Galo joined Maria Vazquez, superintendent of Orange County Schools, for a recent episode of the Inspiring Wholeness podcast to discuss the problems facing children and how parents, health care providers and educators are supporting youth mental health.

“It’s never too early to talk to your child about mental health,” Vazquez said.
