NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., August 20, 2018 Orthopedic surgeon Dr. William Browning III has joined the Florida Hospital HealthCare Partners medical staff at Florida Hospital New Smyrna.
Florida Hospital HealthCare Partners is the employed group of more than 160 primary care physicians and specialists for the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties.
As an orthopedic surgeon, Browning provides both surgical and nonsurgical treatments for tendon, ligament and cartilage injuries, fractures, and arthritis. He also performs joint replacements on the hip, knee and shoulder.
I believe the single greatest impact a doctor can have in a persons life is developing a relationship that leads to healing of their pain and restoring their function, he said. My philosophy in life and medicine is to treat everyone I encounter with compassion and kindness. Understanding each person's interests and expectations, as well as recreational and work activities, is important for creating a unique and individual patient-centered treatment plan. Just like family, I am always available to my patients and genuinely enjoy getting to know people and their stories.
Browning comes to the New Smyrna Beach community after serving as an orthopedic surgeon at Charleston Area Medical Center in West Virginia, where he was also an associate clinical professor for the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) department of orthopedics.
He has previously provided team coverage for the National Football Leagues Buffalo Bills, the National Hockey Leagues Buffalo Sabres, and the Ontario Hockey Leagues Erie Otters.
He graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and earned his doctorate in osteopathic medicine from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He earned a Master of Science in Medical Education from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Brownings father is a family medicine physician and he initially resisted the call to the medical field.
My mechanical nature stems from my grandfather, a pilot and successful aeronautical engineer who designed the tail hook and landing gear for the T-2 Buckeye and A-5 Vigilante aircrafts. In his footsteps, I started out in college as an engineering major. I had plans to become a civil engineer and I spent time doing construction, renovations, and landscaping jobs when not in school, he said. During my second year in college, I was genuinely inspired by a comparative anatomy course and began pursuing a biology degree instead, which led to further interest in medicine. In retrospect, I have realized my inheritance of ingenuity and biological interest destined me for a career in orthopedics.
Browning completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania, and a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the State University of New York at the University at Buffalo.
He is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, and the American Osteopathic Association.
In his new practice at Florida Hospital New Smyrna, Browning cares for patients ages 12 and older. His office is located 600 Palmetto Street, New Smyrna Beach. His practice accepts most insurance plans and can be reached at Call386-310-3975.
