The Fundamentals of Robotic Surgery (FRS) dome was designed by 80 leading robotic surgeons to instruct and to test the essential skills of an aspiring new robotic surgeon. It provides exercises in three-dimensional instrument control, needle control, third arm control, knot tying, suturing, blunt and sharp dissection, and safe use of energy.
The dome integrates the seven core FRS skills on a portable, storable, and reusable device. All of the included pieces provide a standardized platform for the training and testing of robotic surgical skills.
A complete functional device consists of the hard dome shell, magnetically attached towers, and a fused flesh-and-fat soft tissue cover with embedded vessels. Each synthetic skin presents three instances of the exercises.
The hard shell and towers are reusable for hundreds of students. The synthetic skin is cut and sutured multiple times before requiring replacement. New customers should begin with the Base Starter Kit. Returning customers usually require Skin/Fat Replacement Kits.
