Where Wellness Meets the Arts

AdventHealth and Dr. Phillips Center logo

Our partnership with the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts allows us to explore the intersection of wellness and the arts. We believe that the arts — and especially participating in arts education — opens the door to wellness and healing. For anyone, at any age and any stage in life, being involved in the performing arts challenges the body, strengthens the mind and stimulates the imagination.

The AdventHealth School of the Arts

We believe the performing arts can benefit artists ages 3 to 103 by helping them grow their talents, find community and share their unique gifts in a safe space.

That's why AdventHealth is furthering the development of these artists, especially the youth in our community, through arts education at the AdventHealth School of the Arts at the Dr. Phillips Center. We're also committed to supporting individual students with scholarships to keep artists, dancers, singers and performers feeling whole.

Hear from two students about how their involvement within the AdventHealth School of the Arts offered them a place to learn, create and have fun.

  • Sensory-Friendly Spaces

In partnership with the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, we created sensory-friendly spaces for shows along with a "quiet room" program. This new resource provides guests with items they can bring into the theater, including fidget tools, weighted blankets or ear protection.

Sensory-friendly environments and tools help guests with sensory processing disorders enjoy live performances by decreasing or increasing stimulation as needed. These options are very helpful for people with anxiety, ADHD, dementia/Alzheimer’s, post-traumatic stress disorder and, most of all, for people on the autism spectrum.
