Blueberry Sunshine Smoothie

Refuel and Enjoy

This delicious smoothie is a great way to refuel and support recovery after working out. The blueberries and orange provide an ample source of vitamin C to help reduce oxidative stress in the body. The healthy fats from the avocado and flax or chia seeds help balance the carbohydrates from the fruit and make it more satiating. Depending on the type of milk you use, it may provide protein, but if not, you could always add your favorite protein powder.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 1-2 cups milk, kefir, or unsweetened plant-based milk of your choice
  • 1 whole orange, peeled, segmented and seeded
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 - 1/2 avocado, optional
  • 1 tablespoon local honey, optional
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds or chia seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1-2 cups ice, optional

Preparation

  1. Place all ingredients into a high-speed blender in the order listed, secure lid, and blend on high for 45-60 seconds until smooth. Add ice if not using frozen berries and thin with additional milk, if needed, to reach your desired consistency.
  2. Pour into individual glasses and enjoy.
