How We’re Caring for Our Residents During COVID-19

We’re dedicated to protecting the health of our residents and team members every day. As we respond to COVID-19, we’re taking extra steps to stay safe. We understand that our residents are particularly vulnerable, and we are doing everything we can to take care of them. Here are eight specific steps we’re taking during this time.

Restricting Visitors to Our Facility

Like many health care facilities, we’re not allowing visitors to enter our facility during this time. We enacted this visitor restriction policy in mid-March, per the guidelines from the CDC. For more information, including our approach to compassionate care situations (e.g., end-of-life care), read more about our visitor policy changes.

Team Member Screening and Protective Equipment

We require that all team members wear face masks and appropriate personal protective equipment at all times, which keeps everyone safe. We’re also performing temperature screenings twice daily for all team members to make sure they’re not showing any signs of COVID-19.

Enhanced Symptom Monitoring

We are monitoring every resident closely for symptoms of COVID-19, which include:

  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Lack of appetite
  • Muscle pain
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Sore throat

We’re prepared to care for residents here or get them to the nearest hospital, if needed. If a resident develops symptoms that require hospitalization (like difficulty breathing, which is a medical emergency), we’ll transfer them to a nearby hospital for observation and care.

Proper Isolation Practices

To keep all residents and team members safe, residents who test positive for COVID-19 will be put on appropriate isolation precautions while receiving supportive treatment and close monitoring. By appropriately isolating patients who are sick, we can care for their symptoms effectively while keeping all residents safe.

Working Together With Public Health Agencies

We are cooperating with local health officials at the state and county level to ensure we’re doing everything we can to keep our residents safe. We’re following all CDC guidelines and working closely with our local Health Department.

Frequent Communication With Residents’ Representatives

We’re communicating with our residents and their representatives regularly to ensure they are informed of any new information related to COVID-19. If a resident tests positive for COVID-19, we will notify their representative in a timely manner. Each representative is encouraged to call us anytime with any questions.

Helping Our Residents Stay Connected to Loved Ones

It’s so important for people to feel connected to and supported by family and friends during this time. We’re dedicated to helping our residents stay connected to their loved ones safely, through video chats, calling, texting and other digital means. We provide mobile devices for residents to use if they don’t have one.
