Feel Whole Challenge Day 18: Give Someone a Gift

It seems so simple, but the best things always are. It’s an acknowledgement that says, I saw this and I wanted you to have it. Everyone loves a gift, because we all want to be appreciated. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture, just a gift from one heart to another.

I’m not sure at what point we start to enjoy giving gifts more than receiving, but I’ve definitely graduated. My idea of receiving a gift has evolved into any person that’s adding value or personifying true friendship (confessions of a workaholic). There are so many people in my life who help me to be effective at work or centered at home, and wherever I can, I wanna make ‘em smile.

Last week, two of our clients went out of their way to let me know just how impressed they were with our project manager, Jordan’s, hard work and efforts. I’m so accustomed to our team over-delivering, that I hadn’t stopped long enough to notice. I gave her an unexpected gift today (the best kind) because she deserved it. It was a show of my appreciation for her taking care of our clients, but also a personal thank you for being dedicated to our company vision.

The most important thing about gift-giving is that it’s done with the recipient in mind. It’s an amazing feeling when the people around you know you well enough to deliver exactly what you’d choose for yourself. Giving a gift can change the entire course of a day, a mood or even an entire relationship. It’s simply one of those opportunities to be the change you want to see in the world.
