The Freytag Children's Rehabilitation Center at AdventHealth Sports Med & Rehab Palm Coast Medical Plaza has been gifted a LiteGait device and treadmill to provide locomotor training for our pediatric patients, thanks to the AdventHealth Foundation.

The Freytag Children’s Rehabilitation Center team is thrilled to have received the pediatric LiteGait, which can help support walking, balance, play activities and daily living. LiteGait can support kids standing over a treadmill and more.

Pediatric Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation

Created for children with learning or physical disabilities resulting from injury, illness or congenital causes, the pediatric rehabilitation program at AdventHealth Sports Med and Rehab serves children from birth to 17 years of age.

This family-centered program focuses on each child's unique needs, empowering parents with the skills and strategies necessary to ensure success. Pediatric rehab sessions are designed to be fun and functional, carrying over into home, school and community. Our sessions include:

  • Occupational therapy
  • Physical therapy
  • Speech therapy

“Pediatric physical therapy helps kids learn to successfully perform motor skills and functional mobility skills, independently,” explains Gina Masbad, Clinical Operations Manager. “As a child begins to develop these skills successfully, it helps raise their self-esteem.”

Building Strength With LiteGait

Body-weight-supported treadmill training with a LiteGait device is an extremely beneficial resource for pediatric patients in the physical therapy setting. The LiteGait provides task-specific training to develop walking patterns for pediatric patients with diagnoses like:

  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Developmental delay
  • Down syndrome
  • Spina bifida
  • Spinal cord injury

A body-weight-supported treadmill is used as training to improve walking mechanics, walking speed, symmetry, lower extremity alignment, endurance and overall motor function.

“We are excited to have this new piece of technology to expand our interventions further and to continue to provide our pediatric patients improved functional mobility and participation in our local community,” says Masbad.
