Grant to support care for communities vulnerable to COVID-19, patients with long-term symptoms

October 08, 2021 — AdventHealth is expanding access to care for low-income, uninsured individuals who currently have COVID-19, or those who are recovering from COVID-19 and suffering from lingering symptoms, thanks to a $100,000 grant from the TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank. The funds will help AdventHealth’s Community Care for Vulnerable COVID-19 Patients Initiative.

The goal of the initiative is to decrease health care costs, including medication expenses and physician visit fees for patients suffering from long-term effects of COVID-19. The initiative also aims to support the health and safety of patients, particularly their mental and emotional health, regardless of their economic status or ability.

This is the first hospital in Central Florida to receive funds for this initiative from the TD Charitable Foundation. Thanks to the resources provided through the partnership, more than 140 patients have been supported the program’s launch in June, an expansion from the program’s original scope of 80 patients. The Delta variant surge increased the need for this important support.

“We’re still learning what the long-term impacts the COVID pandemic are for our community. What it has emphasized for us is how important it is to provide convenient, connected and complete care,” said Dr. Peter Schoch, chief medical officer of Integrated Health Services for AdventHealth’s Central Florida Division. “The generous donation from the TD Charitable Foundation will help us to provide that care to even more people who need it now more than ever.”

As part of the initiative, telehealth appointments are provided, and when medically necessary, it can arrange for transportation to in-person appointments. The initiative also offers contactless deliveries of medication and medical supplies.
