AdventHealth Connerton was the only long-term acute care facility in Florida to receive the designation, according to the Joint Commission,

The program was started by team members, and it involves education and early intervention to increase mobility, communication and cognitive function. The team helps patients work on everything from balance, to walking, to engaging in regular everyday activities, even teaching them to scan the room visually and learn to perform functional tasks all to retrain the brain.

“Many patients who have brain injuries often face a long journey to recovery, so our team works diligently with each patient to get them on a path toward improving and healing as much as possible,” said Jennifer Segur, DNP, RN, CENP, vice president and administrator of AdventHealth Connerton. “We are extremely honored to receive this prestigious designation. It is a testament to the fantastic work by our team as they work to provide exceptional whole-person care to patients.

The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. The certification recognizes health care organizations that provide clinical programs across the continuum of care for Brain Injury Rehabilitation. The certification evaluates how organizations use clinical outcomes and performance measures to identify opportunities to improve care and educate and prepare patients and their caregivers for discharge.

AdventHealth Connerton underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review as part of the process. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards including program management and delivering and facilitating clinical care. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“This certification recognizes health care organizations committed to striving for excellence and fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer, The Joint Commission. “We commend AdventHealth Connerton for using The Joint Commission certification process to reduce variation in clinical processes and to strengthen its clinical program to drive safer, higher quality and more compassionate care for individuals served.”
