This notice is regarding a recent incident that impacted the protected health information of some of our patients.
Our security teams were alerted on December 22, 2020, of a data breach on the electronic records system formerly used by Tampa Bay Breast Care Specialists (TBBCS) before it became part of AdventHealth Medical Group. A data forensics investigation confirmed the following information may have been compromised: patient name, date of birth, date of death (where applicable) sex, gender, marital status, email address, race, religion, Social Security Number, driver’s license information, address, billing information (including credit card information, where applicable), medications list, and clinical documentation/notes.
This former system used by TBBCS was not currently being used in day-to-day operations of AdventHealth Medical Group. The security issue only impacts the former system used by TBBCS and does not impact current AdventHealth Medical Group records.
Protecting the privacy and security of information of our consumers is one of our top priorities.
We have taken the following steps to ensure there is no risk of further compromise:
- The former electronic records system used by TBBCS has been taken completely offline.
- AdventHealth Medical Group Surgical Specialists at Tampa continues to review policies and procedures and is continuously educating team members on how to limit such risks.
- Letters will be mailed to all patients who were impacted.
- AdventHealth has secured the services of Kroll, a global leader in risk mitigation and response, to provide dedicated assistance with answering any questions about this incident. Consumers who are affected may reach out at Call855-688-0534, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
