AdventHealth’s Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Steven R. Smith is the Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of AdventHealth and guides our research vision across the system. Dr. Smith oversees all research operations and services for the nine states we serve. Previously, Dr. Smith led the development of the AdventHealth Orlando – Sanford-Burnham Translational Research Institute for Metabolism and Diabetes (TRI) as Scientific Director. He has served as the Chief Scientific Officer of AdventHealth Orlando Research Services since 2013.
Dr. Smith’s work bridges the gap between cell-molecular biology and clinical care. Active in physician education, he is the author of more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts, reviews and chapters. Dr. Smith earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center. Before his tenure at AdventHealth Orlando, Dr. Smith served as a faculty member at Pennington Biomedical Research Center for 15 years.
