Inpatient Hospice Care

Expert Care When You Need It Most

AdventHealth Hospice Care provides general inpatient care at three Central Florida locations to patients needing advanced pain control or acute symptom management. Our goal is to help your loved one feel comfortable and cared for while working toward transitioning back home or to another facility, if desired.

When is Inpatient Care Appropriate?

General inpatient care may be required for pain control or acute symptom management that cannot feasibly be provided in any other setting. It is initiated when other efforts to manage symptoms have been ineffective. It is intended for specific circumstances for a short period of time, and is carefully monitored from start to finish. The goal is to return your loved one to a comfort level so they are able to return home.

Conditions That May Benefit from Inpatient Care

There is no specific disease, condition or symptom that is a qualifier for an inpatient stay. Our hospice team will assess your loved one to determine if this is the right level of care needed. Each patient and his or her symptoms will differ. However, the following are examples of conditions that may signal the need for an inpatient level of care.

  • Pain crisis that requires frequent medication adjustments and monitoring
  • Unmanaged nausea/vomiting or diarrhea
  • Advanced open wounds requiring changes in treatment and close monitoring
  • Unmanaged respiratory distress
  • Delirium with behavior issues
  • Seizures not responsive to medication therapy
  • IV or infusions that cannot be managed at home, in a skilled nursing facility or assisted living facility

When a your loved one is at end-of-life, we can also support those needing a compassionate withdrawal of care, such as ventilator removal or bi-pap withdrawal.

Our team expertly cares for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their families. Our facility is staffed around the clock with hospice-trained licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants to meet your loved one’s every need. Hospice-certified physicians round daily to assess your loved one and make adjustments in the care plan. Our social worker and chaplain will assist with discharge planning and other needs once pain and symptoms are stable. Our bereavement counselor is available for support and guidance.

Because interpersonal relationships and being surrounded by love and support are part of the AdventHealth philosophy of care, we consider families an integral part of the care team. Families and friends may visit and stay with their loved one 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our Locations

Each of our facilities is designed with the patient and family in mind, so they both may receive holistic care. You will find a chapel for spiritual renewal, a family room for rest, a garden for meditation and a cafeteria to nourish the body. Private patient rooms are spacious and include a television, telephone, free wi-fi access and a bathroom. A music therapist may also be available based on clinician order.
