Find the Freedom To Move Without Pain
Most adults experience back pain during their lifetimes — as many as 8 in 10 Americans, according to the National Institute of Health (NIH). Treatments and medications often only mask the pain, but our spine care at AdventHealth Apopka is different. We provide treatment for spine and back issues based on evidence-based research to target the cause of the pain using an individualized combination of physical therapy, pain management, pain psychiatry and minimally invasive surgery when needed.
We’re here to help you find the right spine expert or a location that’s convenient for you.
Comprehensive, Expert Spine Care Services
-
Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (ALIF)
ALIF procedures approach the spine from the front (anterior) of the body to remove all or part of a herniated disc from between two adjacent vertebrae (interbody) in the lower back (lumbar spine). The vertebrae on either side of the remaining disc space are then fused together using a bone graft or bone graft substitute.
-
Discectomy
A discectomy is a spinal surgery to remove all or a part of an intervertebral disc.
-
Epidural Steroid Injection
An epidural injection delivers steroids directly into the epidural space in the spine, where the steroids function as a potent anti-inflammatory. By using live X-ray imaging, your provider can inject the medication close to the site of the pain.
-
Extreme Lateral Interbody Fusion (XLIF)
XLIF is a minimally invasive procedure performed through the side of the body to treat spinal disorders and reduce long-term back or leg pain that has not responded to other treatments, such as steroid injections, physical therapy or pain medication.
-
Kyphoplasty and Vertebroplasty
Like vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty is ideal for patients with spinal compression fractures. Kyphoplasty can potentially restore bone height in the vertebra and reverse a spine deformity. We offer both treatments, allowing specialists to choose the correct option for each patient. As in vertebroplasty, a patient undergoing kyphoplasty lies face down.
-
Laminectomy
Laminectomy, also called decompression, is a procedure that removes the lamina, which is the part of the vertebra covering your spinal canal. Laminectomy enlarges the canal, relieving pressure on the spinal cord or nerves caused by a narrowing of the spine (spinal stenosis).
-
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery (laparoscopy) provides surgeons with a view inside the body through a tiny incision to examine organs and tissue in the abdominal cavity.
-
Pain Management
Pain management is the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of all types of pain, including musculoskeletal, spinal and neuropathic pain disorders.
-
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy (PT) helps people rehabilitate and increase their mobility and ability to function by using various movements, exercises or electrotherapy.
-
Spinal Cord Stimulation
This treatment technology is typically reserved for patients who haven't had results with other conservative treatments like injection-based therapies. In spinal cord stimulation, electrical leads are inserted into the epidural space via a needle under live imaging. Small electrical currents are sent through the leads to the areas of the spinal cord involved in pain.
-
Spinal Fusion
Spinal fusion is an open surgical procedure involving incisions into the back to fuse the affected vertebrae.
-
Total Disc Replacement
Total disc replacement is a reversible alternative that avoids many drawbacks of spinal fusion while preserving motion, restoring height and keeping the stress along the spine in balance.
-
Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (TLIF)
TLIF is spinal surgery where the surgeon makes small incisions in the lower back to access lumbar vertebrae needing fusion.
