Better Outcomes With Advanced Surgical Options
- Minimally Invasive Procedures
-
It's natural to feel nervous about surgery, but we're here to put your mind at ease. Our team of surgical experts at AdventHealth Daytona Beach is with you at every step.
Our surgical specialists will create a personalized treatment plan for your needs and recovery goals. This might mean a minimally invasive surgery using robotics.
Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS)
Benefits of MIS procedures include:
- Less scarring
- Lowered risk of infection
- Reduced blood loss
- Shorter hospital stays and recovery time
- Smaller incisions
Laparoscopic Procedures
With the help of innovative surgical devices and remotely controlled instruments, surgeons can make a few small incisions (and sometimes just one) instead of the larger ones required in the past to perform a similar procedure.
Robotic-Assisted Surgery
Robotic-assisted surgery helps surgeons perform complicated and delicate procedures with more precision, control and flexibility than traditional techniques allow. And while many people associate robotic surgery with minimally invasive surgery, robotic technology can also be used for some open surgical procedures.
Endoscopic General Surgery
For this minimally invasive procedure, your surgeon will guide a thin, flexible tube with a tiny camera at the end (the endoscope) into your body through a small incision or natural opening, like your mouth or nose. Once the endoscope is in place, your surgeon will pass small surgical instruments through it while seeing the surgical area on a computer monitor.
General surgeries that may be performed via endoscopy include:
- Anti-reflux procedures
- Hernia repair
- Liver and gallbladder procedures
- Pancreatic surgeries
- Weight-loss (bariatric) procedures
We're honored that you've chosen us to guide you through this stage of your journey to wellness. Our experts are committed to your whole health in body, mind and spirit.
- The Benefits of Robotic Surgery
-
Robotic-assisted procedures have made surgery less daunting and healing less strenuous. With robotic surgery, you can expect the following:
- Faster return to everyday routines
- Fewer complications
- Less blood loss and fewer transfusions
- Less scarring
- Lowered risk of infection
- Shorter hospital stays
- The da Vinci® Surgical System
-
At AdventHealth Daytona Beach, we use the da Vinci® Surgical System to perform robotic surgeries, and are one of the only facilities in the area with two da Vinci® systems, allowing us to serve more patients.
The system’s 3D vision magnifies the surgical field up to 10 times, giving surgeons a more detailed view than they can see with their eyes alone.
The robotic arms and instruments help surgeons work from angles and positions that would otherwise be difficult to access. A surgeon controls the robotic arms, steadier than human hands, at a console next to the patient. And the da Vinci® instruments are even more precise than laparoscopic tools, allowing our surgeons to perform complex urological, colorectal, thoracic and general surgical procedures.
Some types of minimally invasive surgeries our team performs using the da Vinci® include:
General surgery procedures:
- Cholecystectomy
- Distal pancreatectomy
- Incisional and ventral hernia repair
- Inguinal hernia repair
- Paraesophageal hernia repair
- Splenectomy
Colorectal procedures:
- Colostomy reversal
- Rectopexy
- Right hemicolectomy
- Sigmoid colectomy
Thoracic procedures:
- Pulmonary lobectomy
- Pulmonary segmentectomy
Bariatric (weight-loss surgery) procedures:
- Sleeve gastrectomy
Urology procedures:
- Nephrectomy (radical and partial)
- Nephroureterectomy
- Prostatectomy
- Pyeloplasty
- The Ion Endoluminal System
-
AdventHealth Daytona Beach is the only hospital in Volusia and Flagler counties that now offers a robotic-assisted platform for minimally invasive lung biopsies. The Ion Endoluminal System is made by Intuitive and represents an advancement in the existing approaches to lung biopsy by allowing physicians to obtain tissue samples from deep within the lung, addressing a challenging aspect of a lung biopsy.
When it comes to lung biopsies, precision and efficiency is key. AdventHealth is dedicated to ensuring that biopsies are safe and simple, and the Ion endoluminal system meets these standards.
The Ion offers:
- An ultra-thin, highly-maneuverable catheter that enables doctors to navigate far into the peripheral lung
- Unprecedented stability increases the precision needed for biopsy compared to manual techniques
- The physician uses the controller to navigate to the target along a planned path
- The catheter can move 180° in any direction to pass through small, difficult-to-navigate airways and around tight bends to reach all
18 segments of the lung - Ion’s peripheral vision probe provides direct vision during navigation
- Faster recovery times than traditional bronchoscopy
- Most patients go home the same day
