As a player and a coach, I've lived all around the country. And even if you think you're a relocation pro, there are a few things you end up doing over and over again or forget to plan for altogether after you get to town.
If you're new to the Central Florida area, welcome! I'm happy to be here and I hope you are, too. To help you prepare for life in the area, here's an idea of what my family has done to get settled in.
1. Find a home.
Chances are you had this sorted out by the time you got here. That's one thing off the list already.
2. Get a great new job.
Taking on my first head coaching position is a dream come true for me. The Knights have a chance to be phenomenal this season and I'm really proud of what we're doing.
3. Choose schools for the kids.
Uprooting your kids is never easy. But hopefully you can find a school near your new home that feels like a good fit. Touring local schools was an important step in our relocation.
4. Find all the right doctors.
My wife, Dawn, and I spent a lot of time researching to find our new doctors. Fortunately, we were able to choose primary care, women's specialists and pediatricians all within AdventHealth's network of care.
5. See the sights.
Its a lot of fun to be a tourist in your own city. From the exciting theme parks and big attractions to the beauty of Lake Eola, were learning there's so much to discover about the entire Central Florida area.
6. Enjoy the sun.
I don't know about you, but I moved from Missouri. Florida is a climate change that means more fun in the sun for my family. But its also a hotter sun than much of the country is used to. A ball cap and sunscreen are your new best friends.
7. Take in a game.
Our new city has incredible soccer, basketball, hockey and (of course) college football. Wed love to see you down at Spectrum Stadium the next time the Knights take the field. If there's one thing Central Florida is great at, its rallying together as a community.
