N.C., AdventHealth Hendersonville Celebrates New DAISY Award Winner for Excellence in Nursing

Feb. 16, 2021; HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – AdventHealth Hendersonville is excited to announce our latest winner of the DAISY Award, an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. Serenity Rhodes, RN, ACM-RN is a member of the AdventHealth Care Management team and has been with the health system for 17 years. She has won the first DAISY Award of the new year.

Her director calls her an outstanding nurse with a heart of gold and a work ethic to match. She shared that Rhodes demonstrated those character traits through her care involving a recently diagnosed cancer patient. This person had been otherwise healthy, so he and his family were not prepared for the prognosis. Along with performing her Care Management duties, Rhodes went out of her way and gave of her time to make sure the patient and his family understood the care plan. She was empathetic and selfless with her time, listening skills, and willingness to help the family grieve in advance of their father’s passing. She championed the efforts for this family to ensure the plan was carried out across every point of connection and care with the patient and his family.

The DAISY Award was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes in 1999 to thank the nurses who cared for Patrick and for them as he battled an autoimmune disease. Patrick lost his battle, but his family realized the impact his nurses had on the final days of his life. For that, they wanted to create an opportunity for all families who experience the benefits of the extraordinary care of nurses to show their appreciation.
