N.C., AdventHealth Hendersonville DAISY Award winner offers compassionate

care to a patient in pain.

Mar. 16, 2022; HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – AdventHealth Hendersonville is excited to introduce you to our newest DAISY Award winner. Sandra Lively, RN, CEN, works in the Imaging Department at AdventHealth Hendersonville.

Sandra embodied Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ when she took the extra time to help a patient in pain. The patient had been admitted to the emergency department and desperately needed his PICC line replaced. The patient had previously undergone an amputation of one of his legs and needed the PICC line to administer antibiotic infusions. Any movement at all was causing him excruciating pain. ER Clinical Nurse Supervisor, Maria Blakeman, RN, CEN, SANE, EMT-P, knew that Sandra was trained to replace PICC lines. Maria walked over to imaging and requested her help. Sandra was just about to leave from her shift, but she stayed and helped the patient.

“Though this was not an emergency, her kindness and compassion really helped save this patient from inconvenience and pain.” Maria adds, “Sandra is a phenomenal resource to our hospital and an amazing nurse.”

AdventHealth Hendersonville is honored to recognize Sandra as the new DAISY Award winner.

The DAISY Award was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes in 1999 to thank the nurses who cared for Patrick and for them as he battled an autoimmune disease. Patrick lost his battle, but his family realized the impact his nurses had on the final days of his life. For that, they wanted to create an opportunity for all families who experience the benefits of the extraordinary care of nurses to show their appreciation.

If you know of a nurse at AdventHealth Hendersonville who has shown exceptional care to you or a loved one, please visit AdventHealthNC.com/Nomination to submit a nomination for the DAISY award.
