N.C., — AdventHealth Hendersonville Introduces its New DAISY Award Winner
Jul. 14, 2021; HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – AdventHealth Hendersonville announces the newest winner of the DAISY Award, an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. Hannah Bell, MSN, FNP, CNOR is a nurse in The Baby Place at AdventHealth Hendersonville.
Hannah has an incredible compassion for her patients and commitment to support her team members in The Baby Place.
Her nomination centers around a situation that called on her to combine those standout qualities. A nurse who had worked at The Baby Place, who was pregnant found out her baby had a genetic disorder that was incompatible with life. “When Hannah found this out, she began planning things based on the patient’s wishes and went above and beyond to fulfill them,” shares one of the two colleagues who nominated Hannah for The DAISY Award.
The patient wanted to help her baby experience as many things as possible while she was carrying the child. Hannah helped arrange trips including a visit to Dollywood and the beach. She stayed in close communication with the patient. Hannah took the time to learn the patient’s wishes, so that when the baby would pass the mother and family would not have to worry about any of the details.
“On the day of delivery, Hannah came in on her day off to support the patient and her family emotionally and make sure that her wishes were met.”
Another colleague explained how Hannah has gone even further to expand the whole-person care she and the entire team in The Baby Place can provide. “After having both this delivery and another incompatible with life delivery touch her heart in such a special way, Hannah has continued to advocate for this patient population. She has even taken time out of her days off to work with Mountain Area Pregnancy Services (MAPS) to see how we as a unit could improve our care of these patients. Hannah is an amazing nurse who truly embodies the values of the DAISY Award.”
The DAISY Award was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes in 1999 to thank the nurses who cared for Patrick and for them as he battled an autoimmune disease. Patrick lost his battle, but his family realized the impact his nurses had on the final days of his life. For that, they wanted to create an opportunity for all families who experience the benefits of the extraordinary care of nurses to show their appreciation.
