N.C., AdventHealth Hendersonville Nurse Leader Takes on New Role

to Support Nursing Team

May 4, 2023; HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – AdventHealth is excited to announce Abby Gutch, MSN, RN, NE-BC, CMSRN has accepted the new role of Administrative Director of Clinical Services for AdventHealth Hendersonville. Gutch makes this move after a little more than a year with AdventHealth as the Director of Professional Development and Nursing Excellence.

Gutch started her career as an elementary school teacher. But after having an amazing experience with a care team while in the hospital herself, she decided to switch careers. Gutch earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and went on to earn her master’s degree in nursing leadership and management from Western Governors University.

In her most recent role as Director of Professional Development and Nursing Excellence at AdventHealth Hendersonville, Gutch used her leadership position to support clinical training and recruitment, enhance shared governance, implement process improvements, and support nursing operations. Her commitment to the nursing team and clinical operations helped support and grow the authentic, patient-centered approach to health care that is at the heart of AdventHealth’s mission and values.

“As a nurse, and a leader, it is my responsibility to ensure that every patient who comes through our doors is treated with respect, dignity, compassion, empathy, and love,” Gutch says, “This type of care can only be given when we put the patient at the center of all that we do. It is imperative that we take the time to learn who our patients are through observation, listening, and connecting. Once a connection has been created, whole-person care can be provided specific to the patients’ needs and wants.”

“Having Abby on our team for this past year, I have seen her compassion for our patients and for our nursing teams in all she does,” shares Maureen Dzialo, MS, RN, Chief Nursing Officer for AdventHealth Hendersonville. “I am excited to have her continue in her career and bring her skills, knowledge and leadership to this new role as AdventHealth continues to provide high-quality, safe care to every person choosing us for care.”

In her new role, Gutch will help move nursing initiatives forward, while also supporting clinical operations. She will maintain her work on professional development for nursing, growing the Graduate Nurse and Pathway to Excellence programs. And she will continue to develop strategies to reduce turnover and strengthen engagement across the nursing team.

Gutch is excited to start her new role and continue to help move health care forward. She shares, “I look forward to being a part of a team that serves our community as a whole and strives for clinical excellence, quality care, and growth.”

Gutch and her husband, Kenny, have two sons. She believes in the power of wholeness and makes sure to balance work and life. She feels whole when she is making elaborately decorated cakes, fishing, and spending time with her family.
