Feb. 24, 2022; HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – AdventHealth Medical Group is excited to welcome Dena Snead, DO and Matthew Snead, DO, to its health care team. The husband-and-wife team are board-certified internists and will be providing primary care at the new AdventHealth Medical Group Multispecialty at Candler,* which is opening March 1. The Drs. Snead bring their passion for patient-centered care to the new location in Candler.
Dr. Dena Snead earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, NC and her Doctorate of Osteopathy degree from William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Hattiesburg, MS. She went on to complete her internal medicine residency program in Lumberton, NC.
Dr. Matthew Snead earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL and his Doctorate of Osteopathy degree from William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Hattiesburg, MS. He also went on to complete his internal medicine residency program in Lumberton, NC.
The two met on the first day of medical school in Mississippi and have been together ever since. They both have extensive experience in providing care for adult patients with a special connection to caring for geriatric patients. They share a passion for providing patient-centered, whole-person care. “My philosophy of medicine is taking that hometown, country doctor that I grew up with and providing that same mentality again,” Dr. Matthew Snead explains, “To be on the patient’s side, to help, and to be a partner.”
The pair was drawn to AdventHealth’s mission of Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ. “As a DO [Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine] we believe that the mind, body and spirit all affect each other,” Dr. Dena Snead says, “Being a sense of emotional support, spiritual support is a lot of why we loved the idea of working at AdventHealth, where we are free to discuss the spiritual side of someone's health, which does impact their mind, and their body. It all works together as a whole.”
Access to health care when and where people need it is a growing expectation of health care consumers. “We hear the comments and requests from people across Western North Carolina. So when it was time to find our primary care providers for our multispecialty practice in Candler, we were thrilled to connect with Dr. Dena and Dr. Matt,” said Christy Sneller, AdventHealth Hendersonville Vice President of Physician Services and Chief Practice Officer. “Their care philosophy of treating the whole person aligns with our mission and promise to heal what hurts, ease your mind and lift your spirits for every person coming to us for care.”
As a native of Clyde, Dr. Dena Snead is excited to be returning home and providing the community with resources and access to convenient health care. “As someone’s primary care doctor I want to be a partner with them throughout their entire lives,” Dr. Dena Snead shares, “I try to think of every patient as a family member and what kind of care I would want them to have.”
They are looking forward to becoming part of the Candler community and are excited to explore the diverse food culture and check out the local music scene.
