N.C., — AdventHealth Hendersonville Welcomes New Director of Food and Nutrition Services
May 5, 2022; HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – AdventHealth is excited to welcome Mark Starr as the new Director of Food and Nutrition Services for AdventHealth Hendersonville. Starr has more than 30 years of culinary management experience. He brings his knowledge, managerial and organizational skills to his new role at AdventHealth Hendersonville.
Starr earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Furman University in Greenville, SC. He went on to attend the New England Culinary Institute, where he earned his associates degree in Culinary Arts. He began his culinary management career running a kitchen at a bed and breakfast in Lake Lure, NC. He later ran his own catering business in Hendersonville, NC for a little more than 7 years.
Starr most recently worked as the Executive Chef in the Morrison Healthcare Sector in Spartanburg, SC, which is a food services company that specializes in health care. He felt like he really found his niche in health care. “I discovered a real passion for providing the best food possible to the patients and those who take care of them,” Starr remembers.
After serving as an Executive Chef for more than 30 years, Starr is excited to move into the role as director at AdventHealth. He was impressed with AdventHealth’s commitment to the community, and their promise to help people feel whole. “I believe that food can be the best medicine and a universal comfort to most people,” Starr says, “Good food can make you feel better and friendly service can put a smile on your face, even when you are feeling low.”

Starr is excited to provide an excellent experience for the patients, administration and team members. He shares that what matters most to him is “providing quality food and a friendly atmosphere for people to nourish their bodies and souls.”
Starr and his wife have lived in Hendersonville for 18 years. They have one son who is an aspiring actor and has recently landed several small TV and movie roles. In his free time Starr likes to use his creative talents; he enjoys painting, wood carving and gardening.
