Aug. 31, 2023; HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – For women, regular screening for breast cancer is crucial. We know one of the biggest chances of survival is early detection. AdventHealth Hendersonville is making that early detection even easier and more convenient with the addition of its new Hologic 3Dimensions® mammography system at AdventHealth Imaging Hendersonville*.

AdventHealth Hendersonville is excited to add this second state-of-the-art mammography unit to its Imaging services. Hologic 3D™ systems provide better visibility, a more comfortable patient experience, and more efficient exams.

“We have seen the success and benefits of Hologic 3D Mammography™ exams since we first brought this technology to our patients at our hospital-based imaging location in 2016,” explains Mark Murrill, FACHE, Administrative Director of Business Development for AdventHealth Hendersonville. “We are excited to be able to grow that care option with the addition of a second Hologic 3D™ machine.”

3D Mammography™ exams have been shown to offer advantages in both improving cancer detection and reducing false positives. According to Hologic’s website, the 3Dimensions ® system is more accurate than conventional 2D mammograms, detecting 20% to 60% more invasive breast cancers. The Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exam provides higher quality images that improves the visibility of fine details for more reliable diagnostic readings. It also provides a more comfortable experience for the patient, with a curved compression surface that mirrors the shape of the breast for a better compression.

Another exciting upgrade with this new machine is that later this year AdventHealth Hendersonville will also be able to offer Contrast Enhanced (CE) Mammography™ exam to enhance the ability to find cancers earlier.

“We will be able to provide contrast enhanced mammography later this year with this new machine. This means that if a patient can’t tolerate an MRI, they can have a mammogram with contrast to better show the area of interest if needed,” explains Kimberly Brown, MBA, RT(R)(M)CNMT, Director of Imaging at AdventHealth Hendersonville. “We will have an even more comprehensive breast program with the addition of the contrast enhanced mammograms.”

The original Hologic 3Dimensions® system is now providing these more detailed, efficient exams at our Imaging services located at the AdventHealth Medical Group Multispecialty at South Asheville.
