— New Breast Surgeon Joins AdventHealth to Provide Expanded Access for Breast Cancer Care in WNC
HENDERSONVILLE, NC, June 18, 2024 – AdventHealth is excited to welcome Colette A. Salm-Schmid, MD, FACS, to its team at AdventHealth Medical Group Breast Center at Asheville and Hendersonville.* Dr. Salm-Schmid is a board-certified surgeon and fellowship-trained breast surgeon who is committed to delivering evidence-based, high-quality, patient-centered care to patients in Western North Carolina.
Dr. Salm-Schmid earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, IL. She then completed her general surgery residency at Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, WI and a fellowship in breast surgical oncology at Northwestern University. Dr. Salm-Schmid brings more than 20 years of experience in the treatment of breast cancer and diseases of the breast to her new role at AdventHealth.
Dr. Salm-Schmid is passionate about providing exceptional breast care. One of the ways she does this is by utilizing the latest technologies and advancements available for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. She is committed to the principles of complete cancer removal while still providing optimal cosmetic results.

Along with being nationally recognized for her exceptional work as a breast surgical oncologist, Dr. Salm-Schmid’s calm and approachable demeanor helps build trusting relationships with her patients. She values connection and keeps her patients informed and involved in their care plans.

Dr. Salm-Schmid and her husband moved to WNC to be closer to their adult children and families. She feels whole through close connection with people and the environment. In her free time, she enjoys spending as much time outside as she can, which includes playing with her Newfoundland dog, going on walks, exploring new hiking areas, and swimming.
