— New Nurse Practitioner Brings Cancer Care Expertise to AdventHealth Medical Group Cancer Services Weaverville
Mar 12, 2024; HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – AdventHealth is excited to expand choices for comprehensive cancer care with the addition of Rian Thornton, MSN, FNP-C, RN to its team at AdventHealth Medical Group Cancer Services Weaverville*. Thornton is a certified family nurse practitioner with experience in providing hematology and oncology care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Most recently, Thornton served as an Advanced Practice Provider at HCA Mission Medical Oncology in Asheville, NC.
Thornton earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Albany State University in Albany, GA. He went on to earn his Master of Science degree in Nursing, with a focus on Family Nurse Practitioner, from Albany State University as well. Thornton has also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in both Molecular Biology and Exercise Science.
Thornton was drawn to AdventHealth Hendersonville because of their positive and supportive culture. He is excited to join a team that makes providing patient-centered care a priority. Thornton is passionate about serving as a resource for the community and works diligently to provide his patients with compassionate, whole-person care that improves their quality of life.

Thornton is caring for patients in Weaverville and the communities surrounding the North Buncombe County area. Our patients are already sharing how much they appreciate Thornton’s support. His patients know they can count on him to work closely with each individual to create care plans that match their needs and wants. He believes patient-centered care means they will have a say in their care and wellness plans.
Helping others is what makes Thornton feel most whole. And in his free time, he enjoys golf, travel, and spending time with his family.
