AdventHealth Manchester Hosts Successful "Doughnut Let Colon Cancer Sneak Up on You" Event

March 07, 2025 — AdventHealth is proud to announce the successful completion of the "Doughnut Let Colon Cancer Sneak Up on You" event, held on Friday, March 7^th, at our AdventHealth Primary Care Clinic on our main hospital campus. This impactful event brought together community members, healthcare professionals, and cancer survivors to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention of colon cancer.

The event featured a variety of engaging activities, including informative presentations by AdventHealth experts, and interactive education on healthy living. Attendees also enjoyed delicious doughnuts, symbolizing the event's unique approach to making a serious topic more approachable and engaging.

"We are thrilled with the turnout and the positive response from the community," said Dr. Gregory Wilkens, General Surgeon at AdventHealth Manchester. "Our goal was to educate and empower individuals to take charge of their health, and we believe we achieved that today. Early detection is key in the fight against colon cancer, and we hope this event has inspired many to get screened and stay informed."

Tammy Pennington, from Clay County Health Department, and Jeff Lunsford, from Kentucky Cancer Program, participated in the event, adding valuable insights and support. Shonda Tucker, APRN, from AdventHealth Primary Care Clinic General Surgery Department, provided education on colon cancer prevention and the importance of regular screenings.

In addition to the educational components, the event also provided a platform for cancer survivors to share their stories and offer support to those currently battling the disease. Their inspiring testimonies highlighted the importance of community and the strength that comes from shared experiences.
