AdventHealth Redmond recently donated $13,000 of automated external defibrillator (AED) batteries to the Floyd County Sheriff's Office.
AEDs assist people who encounter sudden cardiac arrest. Once the device evaluates the heart’s rhythm, it provides an electrical shock which helps to reset a heart’s rhythm back to normal. AEDs are located inside all the officers’ patrol cars and allow for roadside assistance. Some of the batteries will also be used for AEDs at the jail to help increase response time assisting detainees experiencing cardiac arrest.
“The donation of AED batteries ensures our readiness in the jail and guarantees that our deputies on the road are equipped to save lives,” said Floyd County Sheriff Dave Roberson. "We are grateful to be community partners with AdventHealth Redmond and for their continuous efforts to better our county.”
AdventHealth Redmond will provide CPR and AED training for 180 of the Sheriff's Office employees this year.
“AdventHealth Redmond’s EMS has a great relationship with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office,” said Scotty Hancock, director of business development for AdventHealth Georgia. “They came to us with a need that would benefit our community and we were happy to supply them. The AED batteries have been used to save lives in Floyd County and will continue to save lives in the future."
