Overland Park, KS – AdventHealth has named Alan Verrill, MD, as CEO of AdventHealth South Overland Park. Dr. Verrill currently serves as Chief Medical Officer for Littleton Adventist Hospital, part of Centura Health in Littleton, Colorado. He is a Board-certified internist with 25 years of experience in a hospital setting, leading in all aspects from patient care to governance and regulatory compliance.

Dr. Verrill joins AdventHealth South Overland Park, located in the Bluhawk Development at 165th Street and Antioch. The campus opened in 2017 and currently includes a 24/7 emergency department, imaging, laboratory and a medical office building with primary care, physical therapy and physician specialties. In fall 2019, AdventHealth South Overland Park began construction on a 193,000 square-foot, 85-bed inpatient hospital that will include a new birth center, surgical services, intensive care unit, heart care and more. The expansion will generate approximately 200 full-time equivalent jobs. Construction is expected to be complete in late 2021.

“We’re so honored to have Dr. Verrill join the AdventHealth Mid-America Region leadership team,” said Sam Huenergardt, CEO of AdventHealth’s Mid-America Region. “His unique background as a physician and hospital leader will help bring connected, whole-person care to South Overland Park for every patient, every time. When you couple his dedication with his humble approach to servant leadership, both AdventHealth and the Overland Park business community are getting a big win.”

Dr. Verrill joined Littleton Adventist Hospital in August 2015 from Bridgton Hospital in Maine, where he served as Division Chief for the medical group and president of the medical staff. He served as a major in the United States Air Force Medical Corps and was active duty from 1993 to 2000. Dr. Verrill received his undergraduate degree in biology from Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, Massachusetts, and earned his medical degree at the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, Vermont. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Verrill and his wife, Melitta, have three children.

“I am looking forward to expanding AdventHealth’s mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ to the south Overland Park community,” Dr. Verrill said. “Over the next year, we will focus on completing the hospital’s construction and recruiting an expert medical staff and exceptional leaders to join our team.”

Over the last decade, AdventHealth’s Mid-America Region has grown from two hospital campuses, AdventHealth Shawnee Mission in Kansas and AdventHealth Durand in Wisconsin, to include several additional care locations in Kansas, including AdventHealth Lenexa, AdventHealth South Overland Park, AdventHealth Ottawa, AdventHealth College Boulevard and a future campus in Lenexa City Center.
