AdventHealth Shawnee Mission awarded Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification from The Joint Commission

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association’s Heart-Check mark for Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification. AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is one of 20 organizations across the nation to meet these rigorous standards by the Joint Commission, which is a top national certifying body that accredits health care organizations meeting specific quality and safety standards.

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission underwent a comprehensive, onsite review on July 28. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission surveyors performed a comprehensive review of 7 clinical areas inclusive of heart failure, cardiac rehab, diagnostic catheterization, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), electrophysiology, open heart surgery, valve, and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) populations. Joint Commission standards are developed in collaboration with professional health care experts and physician specialists, measurement experts and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews with staff, physicians, leadership and patients.

Preparation for this certification began more than two years ago and involved cross-functional teams working together to meet rigorous standards. It included initiatives to improve efficiencies and quality outcomes, reduce unwanted variations in care, improve the patient experience, and position heart care at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission to effectively face new challenges in the healthcare landscape. This certification showcases AdventHealth Shawnee Mission’s constant commitment to quality, safety and patient-centric cardiac care for the Kansas City community.
