Your relationship with your primary care doctor can boost your health in more ways than one. Several studies emphasize that a positive doctor-patient relationship can boost your health outcomes, from a case of the sniffles to caring for chronic conditions.

Here are some tips to help you make the most of your next doctor visit in Winter Park — and how we’ll keep you protected while you’re here.

Keeping You Safe in Winter Park

When you need primary care, you can count on our Winter Park providers to have your whole health in mind. And as two of our doctors explain, extra precautions have become part of our new normal for your protection.

Dr. Eddie Needham  is the Chair of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) of  Cardiovascular Medicine Course. He practices at  AdventHealth  Medical Group Family Medicine a t Winter Park and shares that,  “When my family needs care, this is the first place I go. Because we aren’t just making you feel safe. We’re ensuring you stay protected.”

Other enhanced safety measures at our Winter Park facilities include:

  • All staff wear fresh masks or facial shields

  • Visitors are screened for fever with forehead temperature checks before entering the lobby

  • Each room is sanitized before and after every patient

  • All visitors receive a mask to wear during their visit

  • All staff screened daily for fever

  • Continuous enhanced sanitation of lobby and waiting areas throughout the day

  • Separate care areas for COVID-19 positive or symptomatic patients

  • Contactless registration allows you to wait in the lobby or in your vehicle, wherever you feel most comfortable

  • Chairs in the waiting room are placed more than 6 feet apart

  • Limited number of visitors at facilities

  • Virtual check-in and check-out available

Dr. Melissa Morello  who sees patients at AdventHealth  Medical Group at the Center for Health and Wellbeing says, “Our waiting room is cleaned continuously throughout the day, which includes all surfaces and high-touch areas like door handles, light switches, chairs, exam tables and much more. We also provide contactless registration, allowing you to  check-in  online and wait in your car until you get a text letting you know we’re ready to see you in the exam room.”

What Your Primary Care Doctor Needs From You

Volunteer the following information at your next doctor visit, especially if you’re seeing a new primary care physician for the first time.

Communicate Your Preferences

Tell your doctor how you prefer to receive medical information. Are you more interested in-depth medical details or do you prefer simple instructions? Tell your doctor your preferences so he or she can tailor your care to your communication style.

Share Your Health History

Share all you can about your current symptoms, your health and family history and any allergies.

Bring a List of Medications

Write down all your medications, including vitamins and supplements, and bring the list with you.

Provide Medical Records

If this is your first appointment with a new doctor, bring X-rays, test results and any other relevant records from other medical providers. You may need to call ahead to have those records transferred. If your previous provider or specialist is part of the AdventHealth network of care, you can access your records through the AdventHealth app.

Get the Details

You deserve to have a clear understanding of your health and your doctor's advice. To get the information that you need, follow these tips:

  • Write down the questions you have for your doctor before your visit

  • Don't be embarrassed or afraid to say you don't understand something your doctor says

  • Take notes during the appointment or bring a family member to do so

  • Request brochures or other written sources of information about your condition or treatment

Ask About Contactless Registration

Before coming in, ask our team members about our contactless registration option at our Winter Park facilities. They’ll be happy walk you through the steps, helping you feel safe and stay protected during your visit.
