A day in the life of an AdventHealth ER doctor
During a typical eight-hour shift Dr. Andy Little treats 25-to-30 patients. The AdventHealth East Orlando emergency physician has to make quick decisions in the fast-paced ER environment, where time is critical.
“The goal is to get you seen and then come up with a diagnosis of why you’re in the ER, as quickly as we can,” Little said.
For those who are passionate about helping others, working in an emergency room can be one of the most rewarding careers in medicine. Little has been saving lives in ERs for more than 11 years, the last three of those years with AdventHealth.
“When (people) feel terrible, we get to make them feel better. And on their worst day we get to be here and comfort them,” said Little.
One in every four Central Florida residents visits an AdventHealth ER every year.
Doctors say you should listen when your body is trying to tell you something — if you’re seized by sudden pain or having a severe allergic reaction — listen. Call 911 immediately to be taken to the closest ER if you experience any of the following:
- Broken Bones
- Complicated Fractures
- Deep Wounds
- Extreme Difficulty Breathing
- Major Head Injury
- Poisoning
- Severe Allergic Reactions
- Severe Burns
- Suspected Heart Attack
- Suspected Stroke
- Vomiting or Coughing Up Blood
