AdventHealth and LEGACY MOTOR CLUB Rally to support veterans impacted by Hurricane Helene

ASHEVILLE, N.C., In a powerful demonstration of community, compassion, and commitment to whole-person care, AdventHealth was proud to host a special service event today at the Asheville-Buncombe Community Christian Ministry’s (ABCCM) Veterans Restoration Quarters temporary location. The event brought together NASCAR legends and local heroes to support veterans still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Helene.

Joining AdventHealth’s Care Crew were LEGACY MOTOR CLUB Co-Owner and seven-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Jimmie Johnson and Erik Jones, driver of the No. 43 AdventHealth Toyota Camry XSE. Alongside their pit crew, they were lending their hands and hearts to pack backpacks, share a meal, and offer encouragement to veterans who have lost so much.

“This is more than a race weekend – it’s a moment to live out our mission of Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ,” said Victoria Dunkle, Communications and PR Director for AdventHealth. “We are honored to stand with our veterans, to listen to their stories, and to remind them they are not forgotten. Their resilience inspires us, and their service humbles us.”

The Veterans Restoration Quarters, a vital ministry of ABCCM, was severely damaged by Hurricane Helene. Today’s event is part of a broader effort to rebuild and restore this sanctuary of hope and healing.

“This visit means the world to our Veterans,” said Scott Rogers, Executive Director of ABCCM. “To have national figures like Jimmie and Erik show up – not just in name, but in person – to serve and connect with our residents, sends a message that their sacrifices are seen and valued.”

For Jimmie Johnson, the event is a meaningful way to give back. “Racing has given me a platform, but it’s days like this that remind me what really matters. These veterans have faced battles most of us can’t imagine. If we can bring even a moment of joy or relief, it’s worth every second.”

Erik Jones echoed that sentiment: “I’m proud to represent AdventHealth and LEGACY MOTOR CLUB in this effort. Being here, hearing these stories, and working side by side with our Care Crew – it’s a reminder that we’re all part of something bigger than ourselves.”

The event also featured the No. 43 AdventHealth Toyota Camry XSE show car, photo opportunities, and a shared lunch with the veterans. It’s a celebration of service, resilience, and the healing power of community.

As the engines rev up for the Coca-Cola 600 this Sunday, AdventHealth and LEGACY MOTOR CLUB are making sure the weekend starts with purpose.
