DAVENPORT, Fla., DAVENPORT, Fla. -- AdventHealth Heart of Florida in Davenport was thrilled to unveil its newly renovated Cath lab, featuring new leading-edge technology to offer even better care to patients.

More than two dozen community leaders joined hospital leaders and team members for the special ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, March 18.

“This is a $2.5 million investment in our community to provide the best cardiac care and the best interventional radiology care that our patients can get,” said AdventHealth Polk Market President and CEO Tim Clark. “In addition to this newly renovated lab, we invested $1 million last year into our new physician offices and Cardiac Rehabilitation facility, so with that investment and this new Cath lab, over the last year, we’ve invested a total of $3.5 million into our community to provide the best heart care we possibly can.”

AdventHealth Heart of Florida was recently recognized as an American College of Cardiology HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence for its demonstrated commitment to comprehensive, high-quality culture and cardiovascular care. AdventHealth Heart of Florida is also the only hospital in Polk County to receive this designation, while also achieving ACC accreditations for Chest Pain Center, Heart Failure, and Cath Lab.

The newly renovated Cath lab is used for interventional radiology and to perform cardiac catheterizations, which gives important details about the heart muscle, heart valves and blood vessels in the heart. It’s a common procedure done to see how well a patient's heart works. It can also be used to do procedures to open blocked arteries or valves, and test for certain heart and blood vessel problems.

The lab features state-of-the-art technology including a new imaging system from Philips Healthcare, the Azurion 7. The device features integrated intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), a minimally invasive procedure that uses sound waves to assess blood vessels from the inside. It uses sound waves to check for narrowing and blockages that can compromise blood flow.

"We are delighted to have this newly renovated multi-purpose interventional, hybrid lab as an option for patients at AdventHealth Heart of Florida," said Michelle Jones, AdventHealth Polk Market Director of Cardiovascular Services. "This state-of-the-art lab and equipment will give our Interventional Radiologist, Interventional Cardiologist and Vascular Surgeons even more tools and resources to enhance safety and quality outcomes to our patients as we strive to provide exceptional care in our community."

In the coming months, AdventHealth Heart of Florida plans to renovate and update its two other Cath labs to further enhance patient care.
