Expect to see a lot of pink in October as AdventHealth commemorates Breast Cancer Awareness month with opportunities for the community to show their support for those with cancer and get a screening mammogram for $30.
One-in-eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and it is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. In Central Florida, more than 1,200 new cases of breast cancer will be treated at AdventHealth hospitals this year.
Mammograms are the most effective method for detecting breast cancer early, when it is most treatable and beatable, and they are credited with saving up to 600,000 American lives in the past 30 years.
The AdventHealth PINK OUT initiative hopes to bring awareness to the importance of early detection by offering affordable screening mammograms at locations throughout Central Florida.
AdventHealth is creating several new opportunities for the community to show their support for breast cancer patients and survivors, including a virtual 5K and a sidewalk chalk art initiative. Details on this month’s activities:
$30 screening mammograms: AdventHealth is offering $30 screening mammograms now through Oct. 31 for self-pay patients. Most AdventHealth facilities now offer 3D mammogram technology for easy and convenient mammograms with flexible appointment options, extended hours and multiple locations across the region. Most exams only take 30 minutes. For more information about qualification for screening mammograms, visit ScheduleYourMammo.com.
Virtual Pink on Parade 5K: AdventHealth hosts the first nationwide virtual Pink on Parade 5K on Oct. 11. Funds raised will go toward early detection screenings, research, wellness and lifestyle resources, and survivorship education programs to support those impacted by breast cancer. Register at PinkOnParade.com.
Pink Out Sidewalk Chalk Art: AdventHealth is encouraging the community to use sidewalk chalk to “pink out” their neighborhood. Businesses, residents and organizations are encouraged to use sidewalk chalk to share inspiring messages for breast cancer patients and survivors and to encourage women to get their annual screening mammogram.
