Adventist Health System has appointed Brent Box, MD, as its senior vice president and chief medical officer. Dr. Box assumed his new role Feb. 1, 2018.
Box, who previously served as Adventist Health System's senior medical director and chief of hospital medicine, will help lead the development and implementation of system-based clinical programs that focus on patient safety, quality and care transformation to ensure the delivery of high-quality, effective and efficient care across the continuum. He will also continue leading the organization's hospital medicine Initiative.
'Brent possesses a wealth of experience and knowledge across various care settings that will enable us to develop and integrate clinical programs and initiatives that foster better outcomes and experiences for patients through elevated care delivery across the organization,' said Kathleen Clem, MD, executive vice president and chief clinical officer for Adventist Health System, whom Box reports to.
Box's experience includes serving at Adventist Health System's Gordon Hospital as chief medical officer, medical director of clinics, chief of staff and chief hospitalist. Prior to practicing hospital medicine, Box spent 15 years in private practice. He was previously appointed to the clinical faculty at the Mercer University School of Medicine, and served on the faculty for the Division of General Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine.
Box earned a medical degree from the Mercer University School of Medicine, and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. He also earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of Georgia. Currently, Box is a member of the Health Management Academy's GE Fellowship Program. In the past, he served on Adventist Health System's Physician Enterprise Advisory Board as well as multiple governance committees across the organization.
