Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Bariatric Surgery Certification. The Gold Seal of Approval is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.
“It is always an honor to be recognized by The Joint Commission,” said CTMC President/CEO Anthony Stahl. “This Bariatric Surgery Certification celebrates our commitment to our patients and their total wellness. I am very proud of everyone, whose hard work made this possible.”
CTMC underwent a rigorous on-site review this month. The Joint Commission evaluated compliance with national disease-specific care standards, as well as with bariatric surgery-specific requirements. Clinical practice guidelines and performance measures were also assessed.
The Joint Commission’s Bariatric Surgery Certification evaluates clinical programs across the continuum of care and addresses three core areas:
- Compliance with consensus-based national standards;
- Effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care; and
- An organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities
“Central Texas Medical Center has thoroughly demonstrated a high level of care for patients receiving bariatric care,” said Patrick Phelan, executive director, Hospital Business Development, The Joint Commission. “We commend CTMC for becoming a leader in bariatric surgery, potentially providing a higher standard of service for bariatric patients in its community.”
