Mike Thompson has been named president and CEO for AdventHealth’s Southeast Region, which includes hospitals in Georgia, Kentucky and North Carolina. Thompson will assume leadership on Jan. 29, replacing Mike Murrill who recently stepped down from his role. He will report to Ken Bacon, president and CEO for AdventHealth’s Multi-State Division.
“I want to thank Mike Murrill for his leadership as our regional CEO, for leading the Redmond team through the transition to AdventHealth and for his dedication to AdventHealth’s mission for more than 20 years,” said Bacon. “As we seek to strengthen and expand the delivery of faith-based, whole-person care across the Southeast Region, we give a warm welcome to Mike Thompson who will bring his strategic and operational expertise in support of the advancement of our mission and vision in the communities we serve.”
Thompson began his career with AdventHealth in 1998 as a finance intern. He has served in a variety of leadership roles throughout his career, including assistant vice president and vice president of operations for AdventHealth Celebration and as CEO for AdventHealth East Orlando. Since 2017, Thompson has served as CEO for Integrated Health Services in AdventHealth’s Central Florida Division, overseeing the institutes and the medical group, outpatient, post-acute and population health services.
“I’ve been privileged to work with great teams throughout my career and I’m excited about the opportunity to work with the teams in the Southeast Region,” said Thompson. “I look forward to getting to know the communities we serve and ensuring more individuals can experience our promise of wholeness.”
Thompson earned a Master of Business Administration from Webster University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting from Southern Adventist University. Thompson is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and an honorable graduate from the Academy GE Fellows Program for Administrative Executives, and has served on multiple executive, trustee and foundation boards in the Central Florida area.
Together with his wife Janie, Thompson has two sons: Nick, a sophomore at Southern Adventist University, and Brady, a junior at Forest Lake Academy. He enjoys spending time with his family and being active in their community.
Plans for the new chief executive officer for AdventHealth Redmond are being finalized and an announcement will be shared once a decision has been made.
