Flagler County families now have greater access to advanced brain and spine care with the arrival of Dr. Seong-Jin Moon, a neurosurgeon trained in both brain and spine surgery. He has joined AdventHealth Medical Group, a team of nearly 450 physicians and advanced practitioners across Flagler, Lake, Sumter, and Volusia counties, and is now caring for patients at AdventHealth Palm Coast.
Moon treats a wide range of pathologies, including brain and spine tumors, as well as general pathology associated with the spine such as degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, and herniated discs. He has a special interest in minimally invasive approaches and procedures for the brain and spine that can mean smaller incisions, reduced hospital stays, and overall faster recovery.
“Choosing neurosurgery felt like answering a calling,” said Moon. “The brain and spine touch every part of who we are. Helping patients heal in these areas is like restoring the foundation of a home — it allows every part of life to feel whole again.”
Flagler County is one of the fastest-growing areas in Florida, and with more people moving in, the need for medical specialists is rising. To keep pace, AdventHealth has brought nearly 25 physicians and advanced practitioners to the county in the past year, ensuring families have more options for medical care locally.
In addition, the community’s population skews older than the national average. The median age in Flagler County is 53.4 — compared to 39 nationwide — and nearly one in three residents is over the age of 65.
Because brain and spine conditions such as degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, and brain tumors become more common later in life, having a neurosurgeon nearby is especially valuable. AdventHealth’s efforts to meet these needs have also been recognized nationally for creating age-friendly care environments.
“Dr. Moon’s expertise brings an important service closer to home. For many families, traveling long distances for this type of care adds stress at an already difficult time. Now, they can get the care they need right here in Flagler County,” said Denyse Bales-Chubb, President and CEO for AdventHealth Flagler and St. Johns Counties.
Moon earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Urbana-Champaign and completed his residency at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon. He also served as a medical officer in the U.S. Army.
Moon’s office is located at 61 Memorial Medical Parkway, Suite 3808, Palm Coast. Patients may schedule appointments by calling Call386-586-4293.
