Setting the Course for Technological Advancements in Spine Care

Altamonte Springs, Fla. – Internationally renowned orthopaedic spine surgeon Chetan Patel, MD will continue his leadership of the North American Spine Society’s (NASS) Robotics & Navigation Section through 2018 following re-appointment to this influential position by his esteemed colleagues. The founding physician and medical director of the Spine Health Institute in Altamonte Springs, Fla., Dr. Patel has led this part of NASS since it was created in 2012 to educate surgeons worldwide about the most promising applications of emerging technologies in spine surgery.

NASS is America’s largest society for medical professionals specializing in spine care, with a global membership base that includes approximately 8,000 orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, physiatrists, researchers and related practitioners. Its mission is to advance education, research and advocacy efforts aimed at fostering top-quality, ethical, value-based spine care for patients.

During his second three-year term as Robotics & Navigation Section chair, Dr. Patel will coordinate NASS efforts to identify ways in which robotic-assisted techniques and intraoperative imaging capabilities may best be employed in spine surgery. To begin, he will be presenting a special symposium at the organization’s annual meeting in Chicago this October wherein top physicians discuss how robotic technologies may be applied within the value-based purchasing model of today’s healthcare market.

Billed as one of the largest gatherings of spine care professionals from around the world, NASS 2015 will provide continuing medical education credits along with networking opportunities and hands-on instructional sessions by and for these elite medical specialists. More than 3,000 attendees are expected to be on hand to exchange their perspectives on the latest innovations in spine care, meet and learn about new product suppliers, and try out the latest tools and technologies for use in the operating room.
