Dr. Patel is a world-renowned spine surgeon, so it’s no surprise that people from all over the nation travel to the Spine Health Institute in Altamonte Springs, Fla. for their spine health needs. But occasionally, Dr. Patel gets the opportunity to travel outside of the Sunshine State to teach other physicians about the latest research and techniques in spine surgery. His most recent presentation was at the “Foundational Technique in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery” conference in Las Vegas. The conference drew spine specialists from across the country who gathered to learn about and discuss the latest advancements in their field.
Dr. Patel’s presentation, “Midline Approach for Less Invasive Surgery,” detailed the benefits of the midline spinal surgery procedure. The topic of discussion was a recently developed approach that removes pressure on the nerves and stabilizes the spine while preserving muscle function. This is done via a small incision in the middle of the body that allows for shorter operating and recovery times. Watch below as one of our patients, Louis, describes his experience with this procedure.
Dr. Patel followed his presentation with a hands-on lab to demonstrate the technique. “The purpose is to not only tell physicians how to perform this procedure, but to show them how to do it,” he said. This is how real advancements are made in the field of spine surgery – a surgeon who has mastered a new technique shares what he’s learned with his colleagues from across the country, and in turn, learns about procedures that they are pioneering.
As a leader in the field of spine health, Dr. Patel utilizes the latest tools for minimally-invasive surgery. He travels globally to educate fellow surgeons about recent advancements in spine health and to promote minimally-invasive surgical techniques. We are very excited to see what the future of spine health has in store!
