As anyone whose job involves physical labor knows, constant bending, twisting and straining is a recipe for injury, and even the most careful workers can get seriously hurt in the process. That’s exactly what happened to Kevin Bullock, a roofer who was cleaning a job site and severely twisted his back. One minute, he was healthy and strong, and the next, he was plunged into a world of pain and discomfort for which he was forced to seek medical help.
The first orthopaedic specialist that Kevin visited tried to help by prescribing cortisone injections and physical therapy. But unfortunately, neither treatment worked. That’s when he was referred to AdventHealth Medical Group Spine Health, where he met with Dr. Chetan Patel and his team of experts.
Because Kevin’s injury was severe and previous attempts at conservative treatment had proven ineffective, Dr. Patel recommended and performed a lumbar laminectomy to help resolve the patient’s pain. The results were amazing, with Kevin reporting a significantly reduced level of pain following his operation.
Kevin’s girlfriend, Lori Billger, described their time at the institute as the best experience they’ve had in a medical setting. She was especially thankful for the surgical coordinator, Tressa, who helped them through the surgical process, answered their questions and provided a helpful hand when needed.
“Absolutely the best experience ever,” Lori said of the process. “Tressa went above and beyond to make sure my boyfriend’s surgery happened.”
Lori and Kevin knew they were in a world-class facility by the level of care they received from the entire team at AdventHealth Medical Group Spine Health. Each staff member went “above and beyond” expectations in caring for them, Lori said.
Lori’s heartfelt message for Dr. Patel and his team: “Thank you so very much for making it a good experience!”
