Bone Spurs
Bone spurs are very common and often develop in the heel, near the toes and on the top of the big toe. Spurs are outgrowths of bone that are usually harmless. The location of these spurs, however, can cause pain and irritation, along with calluses and corns due to friction from ill-fitting footwear and walking. Wearing proper shoes and warming up before taking part in activities can help reduce the development of bone spurs in the feet. Common treatments include anti-inflammatory medication, cortisone injections and shoe inserts for added cushioning and support. In more severe cases, surgery may be needed to reduce or remove the spurs and relieve symptoms.
