Chemical Peels

Dermatologists can offer chemical peels as a cosmetic treatment for resurfacing the (facial) skin and reducing the appearance of wrinkles, discoloration and scarring. Just as it sounds, the procedure involves applying a chemical to the top skin layer so that damaged layer can be removed to allow smoother and healthier skin to grow in its place. Importantly, there are a number of types of chemical peel, all of which may be used in conjunction with other procedures to enhance the tone and texture of the skin. Patients who have undergone a chemical peel may be advised to avoid exposing their face to the sun for a period of weeks or even months while the area heals.
